Animal Licensing
The introduction of The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018, has changed the way in which businesses, including the boarding of animals (kennels, catteries, day care and home boarders), breeding of dogs, pet shops and riding establishments, are licensed. Such businesses must now hold an ‘animal activity licence’.
There are a number of changes from pre-2018 (when licences were issued for individual types of premises) including a term of grant from one to three years that is based upon an assessment by the local authority. Local authorities now also have discretion to suspend, vary and revoke a licence for a wide range of reasons.
Whilst the aim is to improve animal welfare through a more rigorous licensing approach, there are obviously implications for businesses.
Our inspectors have experience in animal welfare and licensing, including acting as lead inspector for animal licensing for a local authority.
We can provide a comprehensive suite of services, either individually or as part of a great value package including animal activity licence advisory inspections, advice and assistance, fire extinguisher servicing, 3rd party fire door inspection, staff training (including health & safety, fire and dog first aid) and more.
